Eco and ethical

At Indigenous, we recognise it is important to put eco and ethical issues at the forefront of any business practices in order to sustain the future of Indigenous, as well as ensuring we contribute to a better quality of life for current and future generations.

We recognise this course of action requires continual review and is not a static or finite process.

As a result, we have agreed the following objectives:

  • To monitor and improve our environmental performance
  • To comply with all necessary environmental and ethical regulations
  • To actively examine ways of reducing and offsetting our carbon emissions
  • To continually look at ways to recycle or reuse unavoidable waste in our showroom, office and warehouse, wherever possible
  • To endeavour to ensure that all our suppliers/manufacturers provide safe and healthy working conditions
  • To ensure that none of our suppliers/manufacturers employ child labour practices
  • To ensure all our timber flooring is from sustainable resources

What we are currently doing….

  • We are part of a carbon footprint scheme that commits us to planting a tree every month in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya - www.carbonfootprint.com
  • We support the registered charity Anti-Slavery International - www.antislavery.org
  • We recycle broken pallets by providing firewood to local elderly residents
  • We give stone/tile breakages and unwanted samples to local artists and school art departments
  • We purchase all our timber flooring from sustainable resources
  • We produced our 2011 brochure using only paper from responsible sources
  • We actively try to print less and recycle our paper when we can
